I Am Totally Straight!

This art series is an unapologetic act of defiance. Born from my own experiences of corrective assault and a-phobic “conversion therapy,” it amplifies the voices of countless queer individuals silenced by violence.

The title reflects the coercion I once faced—the demand to deny my identity, to perform a lie. As an asexual person, I was told I didn’t belong in the queer community, while also being forced into heteronormativity. I was pushed out from both sides.

But I survived. And in survival, I found others. Together, our resilience fuels this work.

Now exhibited at ILGA Asia 2025, these paintings mock the absurdity of conversion practices, portraying doctors as Jinns and illusionists, their so-called “treatments” as grotesque performances.

This series is not just about trauma—it’s about resistance. It’s about reclaiming power, laughing in the face of oppression, and refusing to be erased.
