About the organisation

Bangladeshi Asexual Association started in 2020 as a self/non-funded collective of, for, and by ace (asexual) and a-spec (asexual spectrum) people from/in Bangladesh. Over the years, we have grown into a movement that is a volunteer-led initiative, with both online and offline presence across Bangladesh, and beyond.

Mission:

  • Promote awareness, acceptance, and understanding of asexuality and aromanticism in Bangladesh.
  • Provide a 24/7 helpline and safe space for aro-ace women facing forced marriage or marital rape.
  • Develop a literature and news blog to highlight and amplify marginalized A-Spec voices.
  • Support aro-ace individuals in overcoming discrimination, hate crimes, and societal pressures.

Vision:

  • Build a society where asexuality and aromanticism are respected and understood.
  • Create platforms for A-Spec individuals to share, explore, and celebrate their unique stories.
  • Lead cultural and educational initiatives that integrate A-Spec identities into Bangladesh’s social fabric.
  • Inspire a future free from prejudice, discrimination, and erasure for A-Spec communities.
  • Ensure the full acceptance and integration of A-Spec individuals into everyday life in Bangladesh.

A-Spec Publications/Research

Since 2020, the Bangladeshi Asexual Association has operated a helpline, offering support to individuals facing a wide range of challenges, from bullying and discrimination to medical abuse. Through these interactions, we have collected powerful stories from the aro-ace community—stories that mainstream media often ignores. To amplify these unheard voices, we began documenting and archiving their experiences, publishing them as anonymized case studies. This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to provide visibility to the struggles and resilience of the A-Spec community in Bangladesh.

  • Develop an online publication featuring A-Spec literature with stories, essays, and poetry centered on aro-ace experiences.
  • Create educational content and resources to promote A-Spec awareness in schools, universities, and workplaces.
  • Conduct research analyzing and critiquing the representation of asexual and aromantic identities in local and global media.
  • Publish reviews of events, workshops, and an annual A-Spec gathering to amplify aro-ace narratives and community building.
  • Commission and release research on aro-ace love stories within South Asian cultural and social contexts.
  • Publish annual reports and research papers advancing understanding and support for A-Spec individuals in Bangladesh
